Teams come and go . . . .

Anyone remember the Jacksonville Tea Men? The North American Soccer League’s Jacksonville franchise played in the Gator Bowl during the early 80’s. The Tea Men played here for about four years, until the league suspended operations in 1984.

And there was the Jacksonville Bulls, a United States Football League team that played here in 1984 and 1985.

While these and other professional sports teams didn’t stick around for too long, we got another chance in 1995 with the Jaguars. And, thankfully, the team has firmly established itself within our community.

But I often wonder if people realize how lucky we are to have the Jaguars here. Most Americans don’t have access to an NFL team, let alone any professional sports team. But we do. We have the opportunity to watch world-class athletes compete on a regular basis right here in Jacksonville.  I’d hate to lose that privilege.

As fans, it’s our duty to do whatever it takes to keep the Jaguars in Jacksonville. So, next time you hear a negative comment about our team, throw back a positive one. Wear teal. Attend a game. Support the Jaguars.
